Yeah I know, I really need to pay more attention to my camera. Still trying to learn how to write, then I'll concentrate on my pics afterwards or in between. I'll figure it out but thanks for answering me anyway.
It's interesting to hear your comparisons. I compare with China because I've been based there quite a few times now but will go to Thailand soon so we'll see about that place too ;)
The pictures are gorgeous and I'm really looking forward to follow you and your adventure :)

Re: Street Shots in Malaysia

Thanks Lena, glad you liked, I'm a little jealous I have to admit that you're there now! ;) I did find Malaysia better then Thailand in a lot of the ways (I was basing myself in Bangkok, where I had an apartment) and that was mostly because of the people there. Thais, had a way of always smiling at you but never actually meaning it but Malaysians were the opposite in that value.

As far as photos, if you're not wanting to actually learn "settings" then I can't help you all that much! lol Exposure, shutter speed, focal length are needed knowledge to know the basics. If you're just wanting to shoot, then do just that. Make it a point to acquire certain photos each day when out. Example: if you're wanting people photos, make it a point to ask 5 people per-day for their portraits. Try different poses or angles, in fact make a point to make different photos of people vs always just standing back and taking the same old style ones. By the end of a week, you'll have enough photos for a good article and hopefully some good memories of the interactions from them.

My 2 favorite photos from there are the monk photo above and the young solider. The monk photo I took when I was sitting in an outside cafe in the Capital. He walked up asking for a donation and I said I would give a little for a photo and he was ok with that. I did that because i was making it a point to get photos that day and scored one of my favorites from it. I took that photo from my chair, sitting at a table. A different angle then my normal shots and it paid off.

The solider photo I got an hour later in the same area. A group of us were walking around and one of the girls asked them if they could get a photo with them, which no cop ever in the world has ever said no to a cute girl asking for a photo. When they did that, I took advantage of the situation to and asked for a quick photo of them. The old cop didn't really want to, so he stood back and let the young one do it but by doing that, it made the photo better. The old cop in the back standing at attention looking away while the young cop looking directly into the camera with a blank expression made for a great photo I thought.

Anyways, just my ramblings and hope you got something out of it :0

Re: Street Shots in Malaysia

Love your photos! Great shots of local people.
Anyway, i totally agree on how lovely Malaysia is. I've only been here for five days now but I'm already crazily happy that I went. Just read your post on hitchhiking in Cameron, funny thing, we are just staying in the hostel behind the one, you stayed at. Looking forward to check out more of your photos and maybe get some tips for better shots (I'm more interested in taking the photo than actually look at the photo settings, weird and sad I know, still hope to gain interest and learn more!)
Anyway, happy travels!

Lena
www.lelsbo.com

Re: Featured Photo: The Old Man & The Boat in Varanasi, India

Wow..the depth of the Ganga

Re: Featured Photo: This Old House in HDR

This is too much HDR for me...

Re: Featured Photo: Life In A Village (Pokhara, Nepal)

People in Nepal are fantastic! I just spent the passed month in Bangalore, India and would tip all drivers who didn't rip me off (BIG TIPS) and when I was ripped off... it just felt awful (which was more often than not.. twice a day). I made a video of one of my terrible experiences and shared it on my blog: http://giveforgranted.com/2... Please, share this if you can!
